LiHeap and Assistance

If the strain of heating and other bills are greater than you can manage, there are a number of resources you can turn to. Some can help directly with your heating fuel costs, others can help you make ends meet in other ways.

First, if you are worried about being cold, ask for help. You may qualify for state assistance. HEAP is a federally funded program administered by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) that provides financial assistance to eligible households to help pay for their home heating costs.

To be eligible, a household must meet income guidelines; currently 60% of the State Median Income or below, and either pay directly for heating costs or pay rent that includes heating costs.

To learn more and see if you are eligible, call below, or visit the HEAP web site.
